Part-time Child Development Specialist
JOB SUMMARY: The Child Development Specialist (CDS) will be working 4-5 days a week between 30-35 hours. The CDS works closely with one of the Family Advocates, coordinating CPAF’s Child Care and Development Program (CCDP). The CDS will be responsible for providing assistance in running CPAF’s CCDP in accordance with CPAF’s non-violent philosophy. Through program activities emphasizing social-emotional well being and whole child development, the CDS will work with children ages 0-5 who are exposed to domestic violence, sexual assault or child abuse and also work closely with their mothers. The CDS will also work closely with all staff to ensure provision of comprehensive and coordinated services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct Services: Conducts weekly planning sessions with children; implements daily activities including arts & crafts, story time, and outdoor play; teaches coping and conflict resolution skills; cares for physical needs of children; addresses children’s needs, progress and behavior with mothers; engages mothers in parenting; maintains up-to-date files on clients and program activities; provides transportation for the program with the agency van.
- Teamwork: Provides general support asked of all staff which may include: responding to emergencies, covering the shelter, providing translation for Family Advocates and residents as needed, providing transportation and maintaining a functioning office and shelter. Participates in program and organizational development and attends staff and team meetings.
Qualifications:
Education: B.A. in Child Development and/or 6 units of ECE, Child Development, AA in ECE or related field preferred. Candidates with equivalent experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Experience working with children and knowledge of child care needs.
- Committed to eliminating violence against women and family violence, including spousal and child abuse; practices non-violence including non-corporal child discipline.
- Speaks fluent Mandarin or Cantonese and preferably reads and writes Chinese.
- Understands and appreciates Asian/Pacific Islander cultures; demonstrates ability to work with diverse communities (race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, age, transgender, religion, class, etc.); bilingual/bicultural preferred.
- Able to manage programs, while coordinating multiple tasks.
- Able to work in a flexible, evolving environment.
- Able to work collaboratively with CPAF teams and community based organizations.
- Able to address crisis and problem-solve.
- Well-organized, self-directed and highly motivated.
Rate: $13/hour, depending on qualifications. Benefits are available, pro-rated by hours worked.
